LaShelle Roberson, a compassionate advocate, devoted mother, and lifelong resident of Buffalo, New York, has transformed personal tragedy into a powerful force for positive change. As a single mother of two teenagers and a seven-year-old, her life took a profound turn two years ago when she opened her doors to assist a long-time family friend and her children.
The trajectory of LaShelle's life shifted tragically when her friend, Rayshionna Johnson, amid preparations to improve her situation, was murdered at a celebration for her 23rd birthday. This devastating event left her children without a mother, including twins Legacy (girl) and Legend (boy), and another daughter, Loyalty, who was relocated to live with her father.
Propelled by her personal experience of the profound hurt of being parentless, LaShelle founded the nonprofit organization "T.O.L.L To Our Legacy’s & Legend’s." This organization, named in tribute to the twins and all deceased parents, seeks to provide comfort and support to the legacies left behind.
"Losing family obliges us to find family," and T.O.L.L aims to connect and support children who have lost parents to traumatic and violent circumstances, including domestic violence. LaShelle, driven by her own experiences, is committed to creating a nurturing and supportive environment for these parentless children, offering them a sense of home.
Launching its inaugural event in August 2022, T.O.L.L stands out as the first of its kind—addressing the unique needs of children affected by the loss of one or both parents due to gun violence, opioid overdose, accidents, fires, domestic violence, or uncontrollable weather conditions.
T.O.L.L's nationwide effort is a call to action, urging the community to change the future for parentless children. LaShelle expresses gratitude in advance for any form of support, emphasizing that this cause could touch the lives of anyone in the community or their loved ones. LaShelle Roberson continues to inspire through her commitment to building a brighter future for those affected by loss, leaving an indelible mark on the community and exemplifying the strength that can arise from adversity.
